Every product has its own strength and weakness. We believe that consumers have the right to understand and compare the pros and cons before they could decide which diamond suit them the most.

Level of satisfaction for lab grown diamond

We could fist look at some numbers. According to our figures, out of all the customers who brought lab grown diamonds, none has ever returned the purchase for reasons like how they think the quality of lab grown could not compete with that of natural stone or lab grown looks different from natural stone.

In other words, consumers are highly satisfied with the quality of lab grown diamond.

Popularization of lab grown diamond

Lab grown diamond and natural diamond has the comparable physical and chemical components. The two could not be distinguished with naked eyes or normal observations, but lab-grown diamond only cost 10-20% of natural diamond. This “cost-effectiveness” thus has drawn a lot of consumers to it.

A study shows that the share of lab-grown diamond in the diamond market increased from 3% in 2020 to 7% in 2022. The sales for lab-grown diamond engagement ring went up by 63% within a year, while the sales of natural diamond engagement ring dropped 25%. Natural diamond still takes up a large share of the market, yet we could also see that lab grown is getting more popular.

The major demerit of lab grown diamond

Lab grown diamond seems to be the better choice after all these comparisons, but it still has a huge disadvantage. Lab grown diamond, when compared with natural diamond, is not very value-preserving.

In the recent years, the technology of lab-grown diamond production is getting more advanced, which greatly raises the productivity of the stone.

However, due to the decreasing production cost and increasing supply, the price of the stone also falls as time passes, just like most technological products.

Therefore, lab grown diamond would not be your best choice if you are buying the diamond as investment. Though it would not be an issue if you do not consider reselling the stone, nor seeking to preserve its value.
